CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Heartland News at 9) - Two people are in custody after police responded to a report of shots fired in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
On Wednesday, July 10 Cape Girardeau police announced a second arrest was made in the incident.
In the initial investigation Yamango D. Jiles, 22, of Cape Girardeau, was being held on a warrant for unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $50,000 cash only.
On July 10 police said Cedric D. Howard, 20, of Charleston, Mo. is currently being held on a felony warrant for unlawful use of a weapon/ felon in possession of a firearm with a $100,000 cash only bond.
One day earlier Tuesday, July 9 around 12:37 p.m. officers received information on Howard’s possible location. Officers arrested him during a traffic stop in the 2700-block of Whitener Street in Cape Girardeau.
According to police, about 12 gunshots were fired in the 1100 block of North Sprigg St., near a gas station.
Police said they learned two suspects exchanged gun fire with each other on a public gas station parking lot. They said Jiles was seen leaving the area southbound in an older, maroon Cutlass passenger vehicle.
Officers found the alleged suspect vehicle as it traveled south in the 800 block of S. Sprigg St., between Walnut and Elm. Officers said they were able to safely take Jiles into custody and recover a 10-millimeter handgun from his waistband.
Police said no injuries were reported in relation to the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
