Murphysboro, IL felon sentenced for possessing metal knuckles

MURPHYSBORO, IL (Heartland News at 9) -

Michael C. Carr, Jackson County State’s Attorney, announced that Scott A. Evans, age 34, of Murphysboro, Illinois, was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon.

On June 9 officers of the Murphysboro Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were searching for Evans regarding other pending charges when they found him at a home on Julia Lane in Murphysboro.

The defendant ran from the residence, and a chase ensued. Ultimately, the defendant was located by Murphysboro police officers and placed under arrest. During the arrest, Evans, a previously convicted felon, was found to be in possession of metal knuckles.

On August 7 Evans pleaded guilty to the charge of Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, a Class 3 felony, and was sentenced to two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by a one (1) year period of mandatory supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Murphysboro Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant State’s Attorney Mark A. Hamrock was responsible for the prosecution of this case.
